Fabric Care
Fabric & Care Guide
At Ape The Label, we design our pieces using durable, premium and bleach-proof fabrics made to support you in the salon and beyond. To keep your items looking their best, we recommend following the care instructions below:
1. Washing Instructions
Cold Hand Wash:
For the longest lifespan of your garments and straps, we recommend a cold hand wash. This gentle method helps maintain fabric strength, colour integrity and bleach resistance.
Gentle Machine Wash:
If machine washing, use a gentle cycle with cold water only. Always place your items in a delicates bag to prevent unnecessary friction or snagging. Avoid hot water, which can weaken fibres and affect shape.
2. Drying Instructions
Air Dry Only:
After washing, reshape your items and hang or lay them flat in the shade to air dry.
Avoid direct sunlight for extended periods as it can fade colours over time.
Do not tumble dry, as heat can shrink or distort fabric fibres.
3. Special Care for Bleach-Proof & Salon-Wear Fabrics
Our fabrics are designed to withstand salon environments, but they still need care:
- Rinse any harsh chemicals (bleach, colour, developers) as soon as possible.
- Avoid prolonged exposure to strong lighteners or colourants where possible.
- Do not leave wet or soiled items bundled up, as this can cause marks or odours.
- Store straps and pouches unfolded to help them retain their structure.
4. Disclaimer
Ape The Label is not responsible for damage caused by washing machines, heat drying, or harsh laundry products.
This includes (but is not limited to):
- Items caught in washing machines
- Damage from bleach or colour not rinsed promptly
- Discolouration from washing powders, brightening agents or enzyme-based detergents
- Dye transfer from other garments
5. Extra Tips for Long-Lasting Wear
- Use mild detergents free from bleach, brighteners and enzymes.
- Separate colours and avoid washing dark items with light ones.
- Avoid fabric softeners, as they can reduce performance and fabric strength.
- Iron or steam on a low setting only if needed. Always avoid high heat on straps or print areas.
By following these care steps, you’ll help extend the life of your Ape The Label pieces and keep them looking fresh, strong and ready for every salon day.
Thank you for choosing Ape The Label - where function meets style, and everything is made to work as hard as you do.
Why TPU and not PVC/Vinyl?
TPU Thermoplastic Polyurethane) is an advanced material that is much more environmentally friendly than alternatives such as PVC. TPU is durable, recyclable and biodegradable in 3 – 5 years.
PVC contains dangerous chemical additives, its production and disposal results in the release of toxic, chlorine-based chemicals. PVC is the least recyclable of all plastics because PVC items contain so many additives that recycling is largely impractical and expensive.
TPU has a much greener manufacturing process and management. Also during the Nylon lamination process, solvents are not used which is better for the natural environment.
The Advantages of TPU
Besides its manufacturing process, TPU also has some significant advantages over PVC including:
• Greater flexibility and excellent strength
• Lighter weight
• Abrasion resistant
• Resistance to oil and solvents
• Resistant to ageing and cracking (unlike the rest of us!)
• UV resistant
• More sustainable
How do I clean my apron?
To keep your apron in the best condition, wipe it down with a damp cloth and mild soap after each use. For tougher marks, a gentle non-abrasive cleanser can be used. While the apron is designed to withstand salon-level bleach exposure, regular light cleaning will help maintain its clarity and performance.
You can safely disinfect the apron using salon-grade disinfectant sprays or alcohol wipes. If using a new cleaning product, we recommend performing a small patch test first.
The apron is not machine washable and should not be tumble dried or dry cleaned. Avoid soaking, bleach-based cleaners, and abrasive scrubbing tools. After cleaning, hang to air dry in a cool, shaded area away from direct heat or sunlight. Do not wring, iron, or steam.
⚠️ Heat warning:
This apron is not heat resistant. Avoid contact with hot tools or styling equipment, particularly at temperatures above 180°C. Exposure to high heat can cause warping or permanent damage to the TPU material.
With proper care, clouding of the TPU fabric can be minimised over time.
How do I clean my straps?
Our apron straps are crafted from durable nylon/polyester blend, detailed with embossed vegan leather and finished with silver hardware. To maintain their appearance and functionality, we recommend spot cleaning the straps as needed using a damp cloth and mild soap. Gently wipe down any areas with visible marks or buildup, taking care not to overly saturate the materials.
Avoid submerging the straps in water or machine washing, as this can compromise the integrity of the vegan leather accents and cause tarnishing of the silver hardware. After cleaning, allow the straps to air dry completely in a cool, shaded area - keep them away from direct heat or sunlight as this can cause fading or warping.
To preserve the look of the vegan leather, do not scrub or use abrasive cleaners. When caring for the hardware, a soft dry cloth can be used to gently polish and clean the silver.
How do I clean my scissor pouch ?
To keep your scissor pouch and/or belt in the best condition possible, we recommend gently wiping them down with a damp cloth and mild soap after use. Both the pouch and belt are made from durable vegan leather with silver hardware and nylon/polyester straps, so spot cleaning is best - avoid soaking or machine washing.
It is important to be mindful not to scrub the embossed vegan leather details, as this can cause wear over time. For the straps, a light wipe will remove product or hair dye residue without compromising the material. If needed, use a soft, dry cloth to polish and clean the silver hardware.
Allow all components to air dry fully in a shaded area - avoid placing them in direct sunlight or near heat sources, as this can warp or fade the materials. When not in use, store your pouch and belt flat or hanging to prevent creases and maintain their shape.
If you work regularly with dark or vibrant hair colours, we recommend choosing darker colour ways to minimise any risk of visible staining, as hair dye can permanently mark lighter fabrics despite the materials being bleach-proof.
Are the aprons environmentally friendly?
Our aprons are made from 100% TPU (Thermoplastic Polyurethane).
TPU is an advanced material which is an environmentally friendly alternative to more commonly used, PVC or Vinyl.
We have specifically chosen and designed our aprons with TPU as it is a biodegradable material.
The product is also anti-yellowing, recyclable and non-toxic.
